New Genesis, Incorporated was orginally established in 1981, by Pastor Joel A. Brooks Jr. as an outreach ministry of Christian Life Center. The organization provided a women's center, which focused on adult and youth counseling and employment skills training for several years. New Genesis later disbanded in order to reorganize the delivery of services to more effectively meet community needs. 

In 1999, a community needs assessment was conducted with the residents on the north side of Kalamazoo to determine perceived family and community needs and then again in 2008. More than 95% of the parents expressed the following three concerns:

1. A need for an after-school site located in their community;

2. Not having a safe place for their children to go after school; and

3. Not being able to provide additional assistance with homework.

As a direct result of expressed community needs, New Genesis has accomplished its mission by providing a variety of programs and services like our comprehensive New Genesis Success Academy (NGSA) which focuses on providing year round literacy services to children, youth and their families.
